A casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wayne-based Pet Valu is closing all of its 358 U.S. stores and warehouses, as well as its headquarters in the Meadows Office Complex, writes Ryan Sharrow for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The specialty retailer of pet food and supplies has stores throughout the Northeast and Midwest, 45 of which are in the Philadelphia area. The company expects to begin closing stores over the coming days.

According to Jamie Gould, Pet Valu’s recently appointed chief restructuring officer, the 25-year-old company was unable to overcome the pandemic.

“The company’s stores have been significantly impacted by the protracted COVID-19-related restrictions,” said Gould. “After a thorough review of all available alternatives, we made the difficult but necessary decision to commence this orderly wind down.”

Pet Valu in Canada is a separate company based in Ontario and, as such, will not be affected by the closures.
