Boutique in Exton Sees Increased Demand from Region’s Burgeoning Indian Community

By

Since it first opened its doors last year, Maa Shakti Boutique in Exton has been seeing continuous growth in demand, reports TaRhonda Thomas for 6ABC.

The Indian population is rising in Pennsylvania. Exton is just one of many small communities that have seen an influx of Indian immigrants.

Since Indian populations are diverse and holidays are aplenty, the shop has been working hard to keep patrons happy with its offerings.

“It’s not easy because we do want to make sure we carry something for all the different holidays, all the different types of people of India,” said Armi Patel. Her parents opened the shop after sewing traditional Indian garments for years in their home.

The family moved to Exton in 2008, and they feel they have been warmly embraced by the community. Both Indian and non-Indian residents rallied during the pandemic to support the store. Customers purchased custom masks made of Indian fabric. Each mask was hand-sewn by Patel’s parents.

The hard work has not gone unnoticed by their daughter.

“It’s inspiring,” she said. “That’s a lot of work they’re putting in.”
