Regal Downingtown in East Caln Township is about to close its doors for the second time since the pandemic began, writes Donna Rovins for the Daily Local News.

Cineworld Group, the movie theater’s owner that operates 536 Regal cinemas nationwide, will temporarily close its venues both nationwide and in the United Kingdom starting on Thursday. The move will affect around 45,000 employees.

The company is taking this step due to the lack of blockbusters – such as the recently postponed new James Bond movie – that are needed to attract customers to cinemas as the pandemic continues to linger.

“This is not a decision we made lightly, and we did everything in our power to support safe and sustainable reopenings in all of our markets,” said Mooky Greidinger, CEO of Cineworld, “including meeting, and often exceeding, local health and safety guidelines in our theaters and working constructively with regulators and industry bodies to restore public confidence in our industry.″

In addition to the Chester County location, the three Regal cinemas in Montgomery County and one in Delaware County will also be closing.
