Glenmoore native Mark Pallay has been recognized with a Bearcats of the Last Decade (BOLD) 10 Under 10 Award by his alma mater, Binghamton University, writes Chris Kocher for the university.

Binghamton’s 10 Under 10 Awards annually honor 10 alumni who graduated within the last 10 years and are excelling in their professions and giving back meaningfully to their communities.

Pallay, a Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer at Seagate Technology in Minnesota, knew he wanted to be an engineer from an early age. When he began his first year as an undergraduate at Binghamton University’s Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science, he realized that mechanical engineering was the discipline he wanted to focus on.

So, he pursued it with passion and, earlier this year, managed to get his Ph.D. in the field. He rounded out his 10-year academic career at Binghamton – where he received his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and Ph.D. – with a research paper that was published in prestigious academic journals, including Applied Physics Letters and Journal of Applied Physics.

Two years ago, he was honored with the Binghamton University Excellence in Research Award.

“Mark Pallay was one of the most passionate Ph.D. students in my group who worked very hard on his project and conducted world-class research,” said Associate Professor Shahrzad “Sherry” Towfighian.
