Chadds Ford resident Helen Murray Sipala, a 1952 graduate of Unionville High School, has donated an Abraham Lincoln watercolor by Rea Redifer to the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District, according to a report from the Daily Local News.

Redifer was known for his numerous works of the president. He lived in Kennett Square until his death 10 years ago at the age of 74.

Sipala received the painting as a gift from the artist, and it was displayed in her home for years.

“It was at the top of the steps, and you would see his face every time you walked up the stairway,” she said.

Now, after recently moving into a smaller home with her husband, George, she is selling a number of pieces from her extensive collection, but not the Redifer “Lincoln.”

“He gave it to me on the condition that I never sell it,” Sipala said. She also said that Redifer told her, “I want to give it to a school.”

The painting is now on display in the Unionville High School library.
