After Impressive Training Camp, Downingtown East Grad Makes NFL Roster as Undrafted Rookie
After an impressive training camp with the Minnesota Vikings, Downingtown East High School graduate Dan Chisena secured a spot on the team’s active roster, write Andrew Krammer and Mark Craig for the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The former track star and wide receiver at Penn State was the only undrafted rookie to make the Vikings’ 53-man roster. During training camp, Chisena was told by coaches he would be switching to safety.
He then moved to cornerback for three practices, before that idea was shelved, and he was made the seventh receiver on the team.
The position change was done to see what else Chisena, whose speed made him a standout on special teams at Penn State, could do.
“We feel like he’s got a chance to be a premier special teams player,” said coach Mike Zimmer. “So, hopefully, he can get 20-25 plays a game.”
The Downingtown native has been working as a gunner on special teams.
“You just kind of get to play with your hair on fire and scream down there and try to contain the returner,” Chisena said. “I really enjoy that role.”
