For the second year in a row and just the third time in program history, the West Chester University softball team has advanced to the eight-team finals of the NCAA Division II Tournament, and will open play Thursday at 6 PM at the Regency Athletic Complex in Denver, Colo.

Boasting a 39-20 record, the Golden Rams begin their quest for a national championship against a somewhat familiar foe in the University of West Florida, which beat WCU, 8-3, earlier this season.

There will be a free watch party for the game at Barnaby’s in West Chester beginning at 5:30 PM.

The Golden Rams rank second in the eight-team field in batting average at a .347 clip and also lead the field in doubles per game (2.00/game) and scoring average (7.67 runs/game).

Individually, Annamarie Hartman is batting .500 in the NCAA Tournament, while Emily Maseth, Jaime Klemas, and Bri Garber have also been hitting the ball well.

Pitcher Maegen Kavanagh has been spectacular as of late with an impressive 4-0 record with an ERA of 3.08 and 10 strikeouts in the Tournament. PSAC East Pitcher of the Year Reilly Gearhart has been WCU’s leader throughout the 2019 season as she leads the staff in a host of categories, including wins (17), ERA (2.24), complete games (13), shutouts (7), and strikeouts (103).

Henderson High School graduate Heidi McCollester has enjoyed a record-setting senior season, as her 70 RBI are a single-season record for the program. She also has 11 home runs on the year.
