West Chester University product and former Minnesota Vikings tight end Joe Senser is slowly working his way back after two devastating strokes, writes Chris Tomasson for the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

The Vikings drafted Senser out of WCU in the sixth round in 1979. However, his promising career, which included a Pro Bowl, ended five years later with a knee injury.

While his time playing time may have been cut short, he certainly made a lasting impression. In fact, he still gets letters from Vikings fans hoping for an autograph.

Senser obliged those requests until July 3, 2016, when he suffered a massive stroke and survived, despite a grim prognosis. But the feeling in his right side has still not returned, and he has almost completely lost the ability to talk.

After two years of speech therapy with his wife Amy, he was able to say short sentences. However, much of this was lost on November 7, when he suffered another stroke.

Senser can now walk with aid from a cane and is determined to keep improving, even if it is frustrating sometimes.

“We’re just grateful that he’s up and alive,” said Amy.
