Parkesburg’s Avery Lewis Shines as a Track and Field Star, Looks to 2024 Olympic Games
Avery Lewis, a Parkesburg resident, has shown immense talent for track and field since her first formal race at age six, writes Michael Bradley for Main Line Today.
Through her blossoming career, Lewis collected age-group records in the long jump and sprint categories. Quickly, Lewis has become one to watch in the track and field game. This past summer, Lewis represented the United States at the Pan American U20 Athletic Championships in Puerto Rico. She won the long jump and ran the third leg of the gold-winning 400-meter relay team.
When Lewis was a junior at Friends Central School, she led her high school’s team to victory, earning the state title at the indoor state track championships. Lewis secured the team’s win with four first-place finishes.
Now, as a senior, who is currently holding onto the Gatorade Player of the Year title, Lewis is already being approached by several top-notch colleges. While she competes in a few high school meets, Lewis is prioritizing higher-caliber competitions to prepare for a potential Olympic future.
“I have to take care of myself and get the proper training,” Lewis said. “I want to go for it, so I can’t take days off. I know my goals—and to achieve them, I have to keep grinding.”
