By

Jill Biden spent much of her childhood in Willow Grove and received two Master’s degrees from area universities.

As a tough “Philly girl” who grew up in a Philadelphia area, Jill Biden, Joe’s wife, has a slight Philadelphia accent and cheers for Philadelphia sports teams, write Jada Yuan and Annie Linskey in The Washington Post.

While Jill moved around a lot when she was young, she and her four younger sisters grew up and spent most of their childhood in Willow Grove in Montgomery County.

Jill Biden, born Jill Jacobs to Donald and Bonny Jacobs in 1951, attended Upper Moreland High School in Willow Grove, where its said she was rebellious and once punched a kid in the face for bullying her little sister.

Her father Donald was a bank teller and became the head of a Savings and Loan Association in Chestnut Hill.

Jill spent one semester enrolled in Brandywine Junior College in Pennsylvania studying fashion merchandising but didn’t like it and decided to attend University of Delaware, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in 1975.

That same year she met Joe Biden on a blind date set up by Joe’s brother. They married in 1977.

Taking one course per semester, she received a Master of Education from West Chester University in 1981 while pregnant with her and Joe’s daughter, who was born in June of 1981.

After taking off two years to care for her children, Jill went back to teaching and in 1987, she received a Master of Arts from Villanova University.
