Despite living in Scranton, S.C., a town with a population of 827, Richard Welsh still feels a connection with Joe Biden due to his Coatesville roots, writes Julia Terruso for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Welsh, 79, personally believes that there hasn’t been a clear choice for president since John F. Kennedy in 1960. For him, it has always been about picking the lesser of two evils in every subsequent election.
Today, Welsh is a Republican and a Trump supporter. However, among the Democrats, he likes Biden the most out of the available options. The reason for this, he said, is that he was born in Coatesville and went to Penn State. Biden was born in Scranton, Pa.
Some other residents of the small town also support the former vice president, such as Curtis Benjamin, a well inspector who said he voted for Biden in the primaries.
“He supported a lot of the things that didn’t get carried out with Obama,” Benjamin said. “We need someone to turn it all around. I think he can do that.”
