A Chester County business owner is anticipating the impending rising tariffs on imports, writes Madeleine Wright for CBS News.
President Trump’s tariffs have been making waves throughout the business community, affecting not only larger chains, but small businesses as well. One affected small business owner is KC Olafsson, who runs Monkey Fish Toys in West Chester.
The collectible shop is a catch-all kind of store, where children and adults can venture in and leave with dolls, board games, Legos, and everything in between.
Most of Monkey Fish Toys’ inventory comes from China, which could reach tariffs up to 145 percent. This will affect American consumers, as businesses will then be forced to raise their sale prices.
“Small items such as a $4 item now, tomorrow being over $10, so we don’t want to have that happen, especially disappointing the kids who don’t understand what is going on,” Olafsson said.
While Olafsson is scrambling to find other vendors, other organizations are trying to get toys taken off the tariff list. The future is unclear, though she is trying to remain positive despite her fears of going out of business.
