The Arc of Chester County invites the public to visit its preschool on Friday, Feb. 28 from 9 AM-12 PM in honor of Read Across America Day.

Since the event coincides with Dr. Seuss’s birthday, guests are encouraged to wear their silliest hat, don their craziest hairstyle, or wear their coziest pajamas and join the fun. The Arc is located at 900 Lawrence Drive in West Chester.

Created by the National Education Association, Read Across America Day is in its 22nd year. In May 1997, a small reading task force came up with a big idea.

“Let’s create a day to celebrate reading,” the group decided. “We hold pep rallies to get kids excited about football. We assemble to remember that Character Counts. Why don’t we do something to get kids excited about reading? We’ll call it ‘NEA’s Read Across America’ and we’ll celebrate it on Dr. Seuss’s birthday.”

Thus, the largest celebration of reading this country has ever seen was born on March 2, 1998.

The Arc of Chester County Preschool is a fully inclusive program where children with and without disabilities learn together.
