Dr. Kyle Boyer, a Berwyn native and Conestoga High School graduate, is the Senior Pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coatesville and the Dean of Students at Norristown High School.

Boyer earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from George Washington University, master’s degrees in Education and Public Administration from Penn, and Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from United Lutheran Seminary.

He believes that successful leaders cultivate leadership.

“It doesn’t take much to accomplish an objective, especially when it is a technical objective,” said Boyer. “There are tons of guidebooks and smart people around, not to mention Google and YouTube, which can teach someone how to do almost anything. What is far more challenging is to cultivate leadership in others and to foster an atmosphere in which others can develop their leadership.”

His strategy for inspiring others is casting a vision in a way others can see.

“Images are powerful — both literal images and figurative ones,” said Boyer. “I’ve found that people are far more likely to be inspired when a picture or plan has been clearly provided for them.”

He said that one quality that he continues to work on is being patient.

“With myself, with others, with timing, with plans,” said Boyer. “When you are passionate about what you do and excited about the vision, it can be disappointing when things don’t happen quickly or in the desired timeframe.”

Of the 12 Principles of the Scout Law — Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent — “Trustworthy” and “Brave” resonate the most with Boyer.

“We can always accomplish more when others can trust us,” he said. “It also goes without saying that we have to be brave to accomplish big things.”

The Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America will honor Boyer and the 11 other VISTA Leadership Megastars at an awards reception on Thursday, Oct. 20 at its new Program, Activity, and Resource Campus (PARC) in Exton. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Lisa Antonucci at Lisa.Antonucci@scouting.org or 610-696-2900 x 112.
