Oakland native James Logan is the City Manager for the City of Coatesville.

Logan, who studied Computer Science/Technology and Psychology at St. Martin’s University in Lacey, Wash., said it’s difficult to pinpoint his proudest professional achievement.

“My professional career blends closely with what I do in my community and life outside of work,” he said. “I am most proud when I see change that impacts those that need it most and when I achieve goals and objectives set forth by my organization.  I have always been blessed with the ability and talent to create, innovate, and bring value to projects that matter most to me and society.”

Logan shared his perspective on leadership and how he inspires other to lead.

“I have learned that a successful leader is one that empowers others to lead,” he said. “First, I want to know something about them. What they dream about, how they see themselves as professionals, students, parents, or leaders. Then, I ask the question, ‘Who do you feel is your biggest cheerleader and motivator?’ If they mentioned someone other than themselves, that’s where I begin.  I share my story along with other examples of inspiration I have read or learned in my lifetime.”

Logan credits his colleagues with having a big impact on his career.

“I love the learning from other leaders and hearing how they achieved their dreams, knocked down barriers, and had to pivot to carve out new roads,” he said. “I’m still learning, and I still enjoy watching game-changers — no matter how young or old.”

All 12 Principles of the Scout Law — Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent — resonate with Logan.

The Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America will honor Logan and the 11 other VISTA Leadership Megastars at an awards reception on Thursday, Oct. 20 at its new Program, Activity, and Resource Campus (PARC) in Exton. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Lisa Antonucci at Lisa.Antonucci@scouting.org or 610-696-2900 x 112.
