Rebecca Worthington, a graduate of Downingtown High School, is the Vice President of Marketing at Benchmark Federal Credit Union, which has been serving the community for more than 80 years and is the only federal credit union to exclusively serve Chester County.

Worthington, who earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from West Chester University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix, said her proudest professional achievement is becoming the “public face” of her organization.

“I was always a behind-the-scenes person by nature, but when Benchmark Federal Credit Union attained a community charter allowing it to serve all of Chester County, it put me on a path to becoming the public face of my organization,” she said. “That was not a role I ever envisioned for myself, but I was encouraged to pursue it. Now, whether I’m emceeing a major community event, teaching a financial literacy workshop to 400 high school students, or doing a TV interview, I find that I embrace the spotlight rather than hide from it. It has become second nature to me. It’s where I want to be, and I have built a confidence that I didn’t think I would ever have. Somewhere along the line, it transformed my job into a career that I’m very passionate about.”

Worthington believes that the key to successful leadership is a “can do” attitude.

“A successful leader infuses enthusiasm into their work, and that can inspire an entire organization as well as the community it serves,” she said. “I try to bring that to all aspects of my life, especially my work.”

Of the 12 Principles of the Scout Law — Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent — “Loyalty” resonates the most with Worthington.

“I’m coming up on 25 years as an employee of Benchmark Federal Credit Union,” she said. “It’s rare for someone from my generation to devote the majority of their career to one employer, and many of our credit union members have also been with us for decades. It’s extremely gratifying to give that kind of loyalty to my work and community, as well as receive it.”

The Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America will honor Worthington and the 11 other VISTA Leadership Megastars at an awards reception on Thursday, Oct. 20 at its new Program, Activity, and Resource Campus (PARC) in Exton. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Lisa Antonucci at Lisa.Antonucci@scouting.org or 610-696-2900 x 112.
