Forbes: Once a High School Dropout, Coatesville Native with Spina Bifida Changing Hollywood Culture
Actress and model Tatiana Lee, a Coatesville native who was born with spina bifida, is changing the culture in Hollywood and improving conditions in her industry for people with disabilities, writes Allison Norlian for Forbes.
Growing up, Lee also had to overcome learning disabilities, ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia, which – combined with frequent hospital stays – forced her to drop out of high school.
Still, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an actress and moved to Los Angeles. There, Lee, who uses a wheelchair, began attending networking events in the hopes of getting her big break, but she was often unable to physically get into the room.
So she decided to start a blog, Accessible Hollywood, to describe her experiences in Hollywood as a woman of color with a disability.
Her blog and her Instagram helped her build a personal brand and gain influence. By 2016, world-renowned brands like Apple were offering her jobs.
Her goal today is “that there’s no need for my activism, that it just ends and disability becomes a natural part of the diversity push in our society,” she said.
