Executive Director Malcolm Johnstone Bids Farwell to West Chester BID After 19 Years
Malcolm Johnstone, the longtime executive director of the West Chester Business Improvement District, is leaving after 19 years to join the Cultural Alliance of Chester County, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.
Johnstone will serve as Senior Program Officer at his new organization.
He will be replaced by John O’Brien, who was hired by the BID Board of Directors as part of the process of establishing a new Five-Year Plan for the 2021-2025 term. Johnstone will continue to be available to BID for consulting services as needed.
“The last 19-years have been the most remarkable of my life,” said Johnstone. “I’m proud to have been part of a great team, which has provided the energy, leadership, and resources for an economic renaissance in downtown.”
When West Chester BID was established in 2000, the aim was to reverse the dismal downtown economy and a decline in the population of the borough, said Johnstone.
Today, West Chester is considered the fastest-growing borough in the state and “is once again highly regarded as a shopping, dining, and entertainment destination for the region.”
