Blood Pressure Screening at BVAA Downingtown: May 12, 12:30-2:00 PM

Stop by for a free, no-appointment-needed blood pressure check and quick insight into your heart health. Screenings are led by trained professionals and offered regularly in the community, making it easy to stay on track. If you can’t make this event, these screenings take place on the second Tuesday of each month at the Brandywine Valley Active Aging (BVAA) Downingtown Campus. Find complete details here.

Nutrition Matters Lunch and Learn: May 13, 12:30-1:00 PM

Confused by conflicting diet advice? Learn how everyday habits — like emotional eating or skipping meals — impact your health, and walk away with practical strategies you can actually stick to. Join a physician-led session that cuts through the noise and helps you make smarter, more confident food choices. This is a virtual event, and registration is required. Find more information here.

Navigating the Maze of Adolescent Substance Use and Mental Health: May 19, 6-7:30 PM

This program addresses “dual diagnosis,” the correlation between substance use disorders and mental health challenges. Adolescents addicted to drugs are roughly twice as likely to suffer from mood and anxiety disorders, with the reverse also true. Together, you’ll explore paths to recovery from co-occurring disorders, which can be difficult to diagnose due to the complexity of symptoms, as both may vary in severity. In many cases, people receive treatment for one disorder while the other disorder remains untreated. This event is free and virtual, but registration is required. Find more information here.

Hands-Only CPR + AED Training: June 7, 11:30 AM-12:45 PM

Most Americans feel helpless during a cardiac emergency. Would you, a family member, or a friend know what to do if you saw someone suddenly collapse? Increase your confidence and reduce your fears and hesitation during an emergency by being trained in Hands-Only CPR.

By learning Hands-Only CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) or CPR without mouth-to-mouth breathing, you can increase confidence and reduce hesitation in life-saving situations. This training also includes a demonstration on the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and education on early heart attack signs and symptoms.

This is a free, in-person event, but registration is required. Find more information here.

Combined Cardiac Support Group and Living with Heart Failure Support Group (Virtual and In-Person): June 11, 2-3:00 PM

This special combined support group meeting is open to all cardiac and heart failure patients and their families. This meeting’s topic is “Spiritual Well-Being and Coping,” presented by Suzanne Roose, Staff Chaplain for Chester County Hospital. This is a free program, and it will be both an in-person and a virtual presentation. Registration is required; full event details can be found here.
