2025 VISTA NextGen Superstars: Shakira Davis

Shakira Davis, Coatesville Community Coordinator at 2nd Century Alliance, joins the 2025 VISTA NextGen Superstars.

As the Coatesville Community Coordinator for 2nd Century Alliance, Shakira Davis is deeply committed to fostering growth, engagement, and opportunity in Coatesville. Whether working on economic development initiatives, advocating for housing stability, or partnering with local organizations, Davis ensures that the voices of the community are heard and uplifted.

Born in Lancaster and raised in Parkesburg, Davis learned the value of hard work early on. Her first job was at McDonald’s at just 15 years old, an experience that helped shape her strong work ethic. She later attended Octorara High School before pursuing higher education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), Delaware County Community College (DCCC), and Liberty University, where she earned a bachelor’s in Psychology. Continuing her academic journey, she obtained a master of Social Work (MSW) from West Chester University and also completed the Esthetician Program at A Rising Sun Beauty School, leading to her dual licensure as both an Esthetician and a Social Worker.

In her role at 2nd Century Alliance, Davis thrives on the variety and challenges that come with community coordination.

“No two days are the same, and there’s always something new to tackle,” Davis said. She works closely with residents, businesses, and city officials to develop initiatives focused on youth empowerment, economic growth, and community engagement. What she loves most about her job is the people, stating that their passion and resilience inspire her every day.

One of her proudest professional accomplishments came during her time at West Chester University when she had the chance to meet with the superintendent of her high school. Reflecting on her experiences as a minority student at Octorara, she collaborated with the school administration to develop a teacher training program on emotional health strategies and multicultural literature. This work earned her two prestigious awards from West Chester University: the GSU Award for Excellence in Leadership, Service, and Advocacy and the David Siegel Award for Advocacy and Policy.

Beyond her educational and professional achievements, Davis credits Amber Little-Turner, Executive Director of 2nd Century Alliance, as the most influential figure in her career.

“Meeting Amber was a turning point in my life,” she said. Originally on a path toward individual therapy and mental health work, Davis realized, through Amber’s mentorship, that she wanted to be part of something bigger — a movement dedicated to community-wide change.

“Amber’s leadership has taught me what it means to serve with purpose: to listen, to empower, and to fight for those who need it most,” said Davis.

Outside of her professional life, Davis enjoys the vibrant food scene in Chester County, especially King’s Tavern in Coatesville, which she praises for its great food, fantastic happy hour, and welcoming staff.

Davis and the rest of the 2025 Class of VISTA NextGen Superstars will be honored at the Awards Reception & Celebration on Thursday, May 8 at the Penn State Great Valley Conference Center.
