Partners in Outreach Empowers Young Minds: Literacy, Volunteerism, and Black History Month

Partners in Outreach’s Classroom Reading Partners program enhances literacy in Title One schools by providing books and engaging students in read-aloud sessions.

The Classroom Reading Partners program is a key literacy initiative by Partners in Outreach (PIO) aiming to enhance reading proficiency among students in Title One schools within the community.

This program mobilizes volunteers to visit classrooms, distribute books to each student, and engage them through read-aloud sessions. Annually, approximately 3,000 books are provided to students through this and other book distribution efforts.

In celebration of Black History Month, PIO focused on honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy by distributing A Place To Land: Martin Luther King Jr. and the Speech That Inspired a Nation. This book was carefully selected to inspire and educate students about the pivotal role King played in advancing civil rights and promoting equality.

This initiative was made possible through generous contributions from KPMG’s First Books Program. Their support enables Partners in Outreach to continually provide diverse and enriching literature to the students being served.

By integrating culturally significant materials into classroom reading sessions, PIO strives to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Black history among students. The dedicated volunteers play a crucial role in bringing these stories to life, creating engaging and educational experiences that resonate with young readers.

PIO extends heartfelt gratitude to all who support the Classroom Reading Partners program. This collective effort makes a meaningful impact on children’s literacy and cultural awareness in the community. Find more information on how to get involved or support PIO’s initiatives here.
