Talamore Country Club Gets a Sister Golf Course in North Carolina

Owner of Ambler's Talamore Country Club, Bob Levy Jr., purchased Legacy Golf Links in Aberdeen, North Carolina, with plans to improve.

Bob Levy Jr., a local businessman and owner of two country clubs in the Philadelphia suburbs, is expanding his portfolio with the acquisition of Legacy Golf Links in Aberdeen, North Carolina, reports Ben Tobin and Ryan Sharrow for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The 164-acre golf club, part of an area known for prestigious resorts like Pinehurst, was purchased for $3.28 million on September 16, according to property records.

Levy Jr. owns Talamore Country Club in Ambler and Applecross Country Club in Downingtown. Additionally, he owns Talamore Golf Resort and Mid South Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina, located just 10 miles from his newest acquisition. Legacy Golf Links, an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Jack Nicklaus II, opened in 1991 and joins Levy’s expanding family of clubs.

Matt Hausser is the PGA general manager of Talamore Golf Resort and Mid South Club. According to Housser, acquiring Legacy Golf Links was a strategic move to add a third course to the group.

“We have many great plans for Legacy including new cart paths and bridges, a complete bunker renovation and extensive drainage and grassing improvements,” Hausser said.

He noted that 90% of the staff was retained, though exact numbers were not disclosed.

Levy’s Talamore Country Club in Ambler, designed by Levy himself, has been a prominent Montgomery County club since it opened in 1995. Applecross, another of Levy’s courses, is the only Nicklaus Design course in the Philadelphia region. Levy’s purchase follows another major golf course sale in Moore County, with Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst selling for around $20 million in late 2023.
