Wawa held a grand opening for its new store in West Whiteland last week, according to a staff report from The Daily Local News.

The new store at 690 East Lincoln Highway is the popular chain’s 63rd location to open this year across its six-state operating area, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Washington, D.C.

Thursday’s festivities were led by John Luidens, general manager for the new store. Luidens is leading a team of around 50 associates at the new location.

The ceremonial opening of the new Wawa was a nod to “the power of positivity and kindness” which happens when the chain’s customers hold the door for each other.

“At Wawa, our core purpose is fulfilling lives every day, and since our first store opened, we’ve believed that we all have a role in making this world a better place,” said Chris Gheysens, Wawa’s CEO.

As part of the grand opening, local first responders competed in Wawa’s Hoagies for Heroes hoagie-building competition. There were no losers: each department’s charity of choice received a check from Wawa for $1,000.
