West Chester Borough Council voted unanimously earlier this week for Lt. Josh Lee to become the new police chief of West Chester Police Department, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News

Lee will replace Jim Morehead, who will retire on Jan. 12. In his new position, Lee will oversee a department consisting of 44 officers and 15 civilian staff.

“I am honored and proud to lead this department with a long history and series of good leaders,” said Lee.

Lee, who is a graduate of the University of Delaware and Delaware County Community College Police Academy, joined West Chester Police 23 years ago. He became a lieutenant in 2020. For the 45-year-old father of two children, being a police officer means he gets to make a difference.

“Most people see us at tragic times in their lives and we have the opportunity to make a positive impact,” said Lee.

Mayor Lillian DeBaptiste was satisfied with the choice.

“I am pleased and honored to select Lt. Joshua Lee for our next Chief of Police,” she said. “His education, qualifications, and experience are all exemplary.”
