Conestoga Grads Return Home, Bringing Their Soaring Band Mt. Joy with Them
Indie rockers Matt Quinn and Sam Cooper, Conestoga High School graduates, have returned home and brought their music with them, writes Holly Herman for the Tredyffrin-Easttown Patch.
The pair used to play in the Berwyn Tavern or Gryphon Cafe in Wayne while still in high school. They went their separate ways for college then reunited by chance in Los Angeles in 2016.
They formed a band and named it Mt. Joy, after a mountain in Valley Forge National Park. The bend grew in popularity and they started playing all over the country.
Recently, both decided it was time to move back home. Quinn now lives in Olde Kensington while Cooper resides in Devon.
They will again be playing to local audiences, only in a much bigger venue. Mt. Joy will play at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia on Aug. 12 and 13. On both nights, the band will be hosting a non-perishable food drive.
“To be playing music at places I once sang my heart out as a fan, and to fill those spaces with our own Philly fans is genuinely what brings me the most pride out of all our accomplishments,” said Quinn.
