Downingtown native Jenny James Lee is the Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the YMCA of Greater Brandywine.

“I have spent my career working in the nonprofit space, and I’m proud to have worked for organizations that benefit the community,” she said. “In my current role, I enjoy the many challenges that come with communicating the wide variety of offerings and initiatives at the YMCA and the opportunity to connect with those impacted by our work and those working alongside us in support of a stronger Chester County.”

A 2002 graduate of Downingtown High School, James Lee, who began working as a cashier at a grocery store when she was 16 years old, earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Shippensburg University. She credits all the mentors, supporters, supervisors, and advocates she’s had with having the biggest impact on her career.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today — or the person I am today — without them,” said James Lee.

Her proudest professional achievement is the key role she plays in her organization’s digital presence.

“When I first joined the YMCA team, within my first year, we launched a new website that was part of a collaboration with several other YMCAs leveraging an open-source platform,” said James Lee. “A year later, I was able to push forward a new product, Activity Finder, that allows individuals and families to more easily find programs and offerings that fit their needs. While there have been many highlights to date — including implementing new solutions, securing contracts or partnerships, and developing a strong and collaborative team — the launch of Activity Finder remains a point of pride for me and continues to yield successful results. Now, leveraging the open-source community, YMCAs across the country have adopted the solution to support their local efforts.”

James Lee’s favorite Chester County restaurants are Mercato in West Chester, Bomba Taco + Bar in Malvern, and Estrella Tacos y Mas in Downingtown.

James Lee and the rest of the 2023 Class of VISTA Millennial Superstars will be honored at the Awards Reception & Celebration on Thursday, May 18 at Penn State Great Valley.
