West Chester native and Bishop Shanahan High School graduate Melissa Spahr is the Manager of Clinical Performance and Outcomes at Chester County Hospital.

“My current role provides me the opportunity to work with a variety of groups at the hospital to help solve problems that exist in our most vulnerable patient populations,” she said. “With oversight of Heart Failure, COPD, Stroke, and Sepsis programs, my role is uniquely aligned to bring together experts who treat all of these diseases to address their individual and population-based needs. I like working with teams and bringing teams together to accomplish something great.”

Spahr, who began working when she was 14 years old as a counselor at Arrowhead Day Camp, earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Widener University and a master’s degree in Health Administration from Saint Joseph’s University. She credits her friend, Heather Ross, with having the biggest impact on her career.

“She’s my confidant and role model as a nurse and as a leader,” said Spahr. “She was the first person who encouraged me to take the next big step in my career and continues to encourage my growth professionally. Most of all, she reminds me that having a balance is necessary to ensuring happiness and success.”

Spahr’s proudest professional achievements are when her colleagues at Chester County Hospital share and celebrate their successes with her.

“In my time at Chester County Hospital, we have worked hard to improve our quality measures,” she said. “This past year, we had so many team members volunteer to share the wonderful projects they have worked on to improve stroke care. I am so proud every day of their commitment to providing great care to all of our patients.”

Spahr’s favorite Chester County restaurant is Pietro’s Prime in West Chester.

Spahr and the rest of the 2023 Class of VISTA Millennial Superstars will be honored at the Awards Reception & Celebration on Thursday, May 18 at Penn State Great Valley.
