West Chester-based Upswing Fitness offers personal trainers and fitness instructors a platform where they can create and post content for their subscribers, writes Kennedy Rose for The Philadelphia Business Journal.
The startup was founded in 2020 by Chris Putsch, a personal trainer, and Shaun Ziegler, one of his first clients. They run the company together full-time.
Putsch got the idea for the startup during the pandemic when his clients approached him about workout plans they could do at home. In response, he created a group chat and spreadsheet for his clients to log their workout routines and compete with one another through a leaderboard.
“We’re just kind of trying to replicate that group fitness or in-person, in-gym experience while still being apart,” he said. “We say we’re allowing our members to work out together, but apart.”
Soon, he and Ziegler decided to build a platform that would incorporate workouts with the social element.
Upswing Fitness allows trainers to post their workouts that are made available to users through a subscription model.
The goal is to offer fitness content creators a way to monetize their work that is not as easily available on other social media platforms.
