Driven by the home-fitness boom, Malvern-based Fitness Machine Technicians has recorded tremendous growth during the pandemic. Ryan Mulligan ran through the reasons why for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The company recently opened its 50th franchise, only three years after rolling out a nationwide expansion campaign.

Fitness Machine Technicians repairs and maintains workout equipment at fitness centers, universities, apartment buildings, and in users’ homes. Its current reach covers 32 states and Canada.

The pandemic has significantly shifted the company’s work.

According to Don Powers, Fitness Machine Technicians founder and CEO, his services were around 97 percent commercial prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. Since the pandemic began, nearly 40 percent of the work is home equipment repairs.

Powers started the company in 2002, and the recent rapid growth is something that even caught him off guard.

“I get up every morning, and I’m really excited to go to work because I’m excited to see the growth,” he said. “I can’t believe the growth that has happened in the last three and a half years. From one or two franchises to 50, I constantly have to pinch myself. Is this real? Yes, it’s real.”
