Donors Helped Home of the Sparrow’s Clients Take Step Closer Toward Stability in a Very Difficult Year
Home of the Sparrow — an Exton-based nonprofit that partners with women facing homelessness to secure housing, achieve long-term stability, and chart new paths for their futures — is proud of its financials and exists on almost 100 percent philanthropy.
A very small portion of HOS’s income is generated through program fees. These are set on a sliding scale for program participants who are able to help cover the costs of living in the nonprofit’s Pre-Senior Bridge Housing Facilities.
HOS is supported primarily by individuals (58 percent), grantmakers (15 percent), and fundraising events (10 percent). Approximately, 17 percent of HOS’s funding comes from government sources (primarily Chester County). Eighty-two percent of the funds raised are used for client programs and services. Additionally, 100 percent of HOS’s Board of Directors makes an annual gift to the organization’s mission.
“Home of the Sparrow’s remarkable family of individuals, businesses, grantmakers, and volunteers helped our women take a step closer toward financial and housing stability in a very difficult year,” said CEO Michelle Venema.
