Home of the Sparrow, a nonprofit organization that supports women facing homelessness, has received a $5,000 donation from The Union Home Mortgage Foundation.

The nonprofit helps over 1,000 Chester County women and children secure housing and financial security, while helping them chart new paths for their futures.

Funding from the Union Home Mortgage Foundation will support eviction prevention services to help ensure that local women and children do not experience the trauma of homelessness.

Although Chester County is the “wealthiest” county in the Pennsylvania, 34,200 residents live below the poverty line.

“We are so thankful for the continued kindness and generosity of our friends at Union Home Mortgage Foundation,” said Kathleen Sanger, Director of Development at Home of the Sparrow. “This grant enables our case managers to say ‘yes’ when a woman or a mother asks for assistance.

“Perhaps it is helping to pay rent or a utility bill or to help cover the cost of therapy to address trauma. On behalf of all of us at Home of the Sparrow, we appreciate Union Home Mortgage’s partnership to help make housing stability a reality for so many low-income women in Chester County.”

“We believe in the right to responsible homeownership for all individuals. Organizations like Home of the Sparrow are taking the steps to make this dream a reality for women throughout Chester County,” said Bill Cosgrove, President & CEO of Union Home Mortgage and Chairman of the Foundation.

“Empowering women to take charge of their housing finances is a fundamental building block for a lifetime of success and security.”
