A national docuseries, Use of Force: The Policing of Black America, prominently features a Coatesville couple. Fran Maye, of the Daily Local News, reported the pair’s input for the show on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service.

Jackie Carter and her husband Wayne discuss possible solutions to the problem of excessive force during the 84-minute documentary.

Jackie, who has been a Coatesville resident for 52 years, gained prominence after inventing the “Not Reaching Pouch,” a small satchel that attaches to a car’s air vent to hold a driver’s license and vehicle documentation. Its use, which eliminates a driver’s need to search pockets during a stop, has increased safety for both law enforcement officers and drivers.

Jackie is also president of the Alliance for Safe Traffic Stops, an organization that seeks to ease tensions and eliminate physical harm between police and motorists.

The documentary takes a look at the deadly encounters between people of color and police in America. It shows the journey of victims’ families as they try to combat police brutality, and it offers commentary from thought leaders on the policies and tactics used by law enforcement.

“The (documentary) opens the door for critical conversations that I am doing with my nonprofits, such as Alliance for Safe Traffic Stops, and the partnerships we are forging with other organizations,” said Jackie.
