The cause of the West Caln Township plane crash that killed a Chester County school board president has been revealed by federal investigators more than two years after the deadly accident took place, writes George Stockburger for ABC27.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the crash was caused by an inadequate preflight inspection. Investigators found that water from a recent rainfall had contaminated the fuel, resulting in a loss of engine power.
Additionally, reports found that due to the inadequate inspection, personnel did not detect and replace the missing right fuel cap gasket.
The plane was originally part of restoration project, and it was headed to Knoxville, Tennessee to a new owner.
It went down shortly after taking off on Feb. 1, 2024. Witnesses said they heard a loud pop after the takeoff and saw aggressive movements.
The sole occupant and pilot was Cochranville’s Sam Ganow, who was the Octorara Area School District board president.
