Just weeks after resigning from his position as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, West Chester resident William McSwain has joined Philadelphia-based Duane Morris as a partner, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Before serving as U.S. Attorney, McSwain was a partner in Drinker Biddle & Reath’s white-collar criminal defense group. He said he chose to join Duane Morris due to the deep connections he has with the firm.

These include clerking for U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit Judge Marjorie O. Rendell after graduating law school. He said Rendell always spoke highly of her time as a bankruptcy lawyer at Duane Morris.

He said that one of his mentors, former U.S. Attorney and current U.S. District Judge Michael Baylson, also spoke highly of Duane Morris and his time there.

Additionally, McSwain often handled cases for Duane Morris while in private practice at Drinker Biddle & Reath when there was a client conflict. This is where he got to know and became friends with Matthew Taylor, Duane Morris Chairman.

“I want to help Matt and the management team at Duane Morris really build something,” said McSwain.
