Doggie daycares and dog walker businesses have seen the need for their services all but vanish during the coronavirus pandemic, writes Caroline O’Halloran for SAVVY Main Line.

Paws@Play in Wayne has been open for 15 years. Just to break even, it needs to care for 12 dogs each day. But due to the pandemic that is keeping most people at home, it gets maybe four.

Owner Marta Komosienski is a former grooming assistant who has fostered dogs most of her life. She lives next door to her business and takes care of all the dogs herself.

But with no grooming or boarding to offset the catastrophic losses, Komosienski will be forced to close her doors for good if things do not turn around soon.

At Your Service Pet Care in Chesterbrook is having a similar experience with the pandemic. The once-booming business is down to one daily client since Vanguard and nearby corporate centers closed down.

Still, owner Donna McCarty is hoping things will pick up once again.

“I enjoy what I do,” she said, “I’m just going to hang in there and see what happens.”
