Great Valley High School graduate Nasir Adderley, a safety in his second year in the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers, made the first interception of his professional career a memorable one.

On the NFL’s biggest stage – Monday Night Football – Adderley picked off New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, the league’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns, in the second quarter to help his team preserve a 13-3 lead.

Adderley’s defensive exploits weren’t enough, however, as the Chargers lost, 30-27, in overtime.

Although his team sits in last place in the AFC West at 1-4, the 6-foot-0, 194-pound defensive back is optimistic about the future.

“We just gotta find a way to close,” said Adderley, who played collegiately at the University of Delaware. “We’re a team, and we pretty much just gotta find a way to close out those games, especially when we get ahead like that.”

He also believes that the Chargers’ upcoming bye week has arrived at the perfect time for a team plagued with injuries.

“We definitely have a lot of people down right now,” he said, “and it’ll be definitely a blessing trying to get them back following the bye week.”
