The Donovan family from Unionville has an amazing connection to Princeton University, especially its field hockey, going back decades, writes Jerry Price for GoPrincetonTigers.com.
Katy Donovan, a Princeton alumna who met her husband at the university chapel, has seen her four daughters play field hockey for her alma mater, starting with the oldest Kaitlin, who was followed by Amy, Annabeth, and Claire.
Kaitlin was a walk-on in both field hockey and lacrosse in 2006. Three years later, Amy was a big recruit for the university. In 2012, she was in the team that won the NCAA championship.
“Kaitlin was there to show me everything,” said Amy.
When Annabeth continued the family tradition, she did not expect to be giving her mother additional exciting news during her sophomore field hockey season – she was pregnant.
Pregnancy and a baby did not slow her down. She played two more seasons of and completed her degree. She had to skip two seasons for her second pregnancy, but then got to play with her sister, Claire, when she returned in 2018.
Meanwhile, the youngest sister skipped a season during the pandemic so she could play this season, with her entire family there to support her.
