Elijah Wilkinson, a Downingtown West High School graduate and offensive lineman for the Denver Broncos, recently opened up a barbershop in the Mile High City, writes Arielle Orsuto for 9News.

For Wilkinson, who was an undrafted free agent in 2017 after playing collegiately at the University of Massachusetts, a barbershop is not just a place to go for a haircut. It’s a cultural cornerstone he felt his new hometown was missing.

“The whole idea of it was to bring a vibe from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, where I’m originally from,” he said. “It’s just a place to hang out, listen to music, you know. Saturdays, college football is on.”

Wilkinson joined forces with Freddy Soto, his barber of two years, to open up All-Star Barbershop.

“It’s been a long time coming, but you know, Freddy put in the hard work and I put in some of my days off when we were in camp until now, so I could come here and help out,” said Wilkinson.

The new barbershop officially opened its doors on Oct. 1 with an open house. Several of Wilkinson’s teammates, including fellow lineman Garett Bolles, showed up for the occasion.

As expected, the owner was the first to sit in the barber’s chair for the ceremonial first cut.
