For First Time in His Illustrious Career, Exton Native Matt Ryan’s Future Up in the Air

Although he expressed admiration for Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank has not fully committed to the Exton native as the quarterback of the future for his struggling franchise, writes Vaughn McClure for ESPN.com.

“Matt’s been a franchise leader for us, great quarterback; one of the leading quarterbacks in the last 13 years in the NFL,” said Blank, whose team is 1-5. “I hope he’s going to be part of our plans going forward. But that will be a decision that I won’t make.”

While he continued to praise the Penn Charter grad, Blank did not use his usual “Falcon for life” phrase while talking about him.

Meanwhile, Ryan, 35, is hoping to play well into his 40s.

“I think, No. 1, I’ve got a long way to go until I get there,” said Ryan, who started playing football at the age of 8 for the Downingtown Young Whippets. “But if you can stay healthy and you’re still playing at a high level and all those things, I don’t see why not.”

Ryan signed a five-year, $150 million extension with the Falcons in May 2018.
