12-year-old cancer survivor Brayden Baldwin is pursuing his dreams of becoming a Flyers Goaltender with the help of a unique West Chester educational program, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.
A native of Wallingford, Baldwin was first diagnosed with cancer at the age of three. He sadly relapsed at age 6, before officially becoming a survivor in January 2026.
A lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, he’s played hockey since he was 7, and goaltender is his favorite position.
Now, Baldwin’s dream of becoming a Flyers goalie is one step closer to reality thanks to a partnership with West Chester’s Ice Line Quad Rinks.
Baldwin is a Study, Train, and Play Athlete at Total Package Hockey Academy Philadelphia, a local chapter of the national TPH organization. Within the program, Baldwin spends a portion of the day playing hockey and the rest of the day completing synchronous and remote schoolwork with Agora Cyber Charter School.
The flexible programming allows Brayden to train at Ice Line while staying on top of his education. Mother Kaitlyn May described sending Brayden to TPH as one of the best decisions the family has made.
Beyond the classroom or his time on the ice, Brayden was also chosen to decorate a mask for Flyers goaltender Sam Ersson, which Ersson wore for warmups at Hockey Fights Cancer night last fall.
