Exton native Matt Ryan, one of the NFL’s highest-paid players who is under a five-year contract worth $150 million, is intent on leading the Atlanta Falcons back to the Super Bowl, writes Vaughn McClure for ESPN.com.

The former NFL MVP started playing football at the age of eight for the Downingtown Young Whippets. However, it took until seventh grade, when he joined the Marsh Creek Eagles, for him to start playing the position that has since earned him millions of dollars.

Now, he is hoping to lead the Falcons back to the Super Bowl. His attempt last year was thwarted by the Philadelphia Eagles, who preserved their playoff victory over the Falcons in the last minutes of the game.

That loss, however, paled in comparison to the 28-3 lead that Atlanta squandered against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI. Ryan, who graduated from Penn Charter and excelled at Boston College, is determined not to let those losses affect his play.

“I like to win, but it really stings to lose,” he said. “You have to be tough enough, strong enough to get over those.”
