Linfield National Golf Club has been serving the golfing public for close to a quarter century. Open since 1997 and located just of Route 422 in Montgomery County, a few miles east of Pottstown, the layout has been tweaked in recent years to play a bit longer than it once did.

Today, the course plays to 6,365 yards (par 71 from the deepest of four sets of tees.

Owner/Director of Golf Robert Kleckner strives to give his customers quality conditions. “We’re working really hard at keeping our greens in great shape,” he said. “Our fairways and greens are in good shape. We offer a nice value for customers who are coming out and playing golf here.”

The list of memorable holes here includes the 14th, a par three that plays slightly downhill to a maximum of 140 yards and requires a carry over water.

The 18th is a solid finishing hole, a par four that that plays to 415 yards from the tips. The player must contend with woods on the left side and bunkers to the right.

Like his peers, Kleckner, who currently serves as President of the Pennsylvania Golf Course Owners Association is attempting to mitigate the impact of losing seven-plus weeks of revenue this spring in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This, after the season got off to a promising start.

“I think the whole golf industry in the Northeast came from probably the best January and February since before 9-11 to a screeching halt as of March 14,” Kleckner said. “We went from going 90-100 miles an hour with no snow and nice weather to incredible changes in everybody’s life.”

The club lost a portion of its outing business during the enforced shutdown. During a normal season, Linfield national will host 40-60 outings.

Kleckner strives to build relationships with those who choose to send their golfing dollars at his club. “You want to go somewhere where they may know your name,” he said, “or they recognize you and you feel comfortable and receive great service.

“Everyone always looks for that, especially in these times. They want value for their dollar.
