Kennett Square Borough Council recently voted unanimously on two important issues related to the development of the new Kennett Library:

  • The design of the new library was approved and deemed appropriate for the community.
  • The library’s Conditional Use Request to build under the Tall Building Overlay Code was approved without objection.

“The Library Tall Building Overlay was requested, not for the 33-foot building height, but for more flexibility in setbacks and impervious coverage,” said Jeff Yetter, President of the Kennett Library’s Board of Trustees.

The Kennett Library is a part of the Chester County Library System, which has a mission to ensure that every county resident has access to exceptional opportunities to read, learn, create, connect, and contribute to a better quality of life. Chester County’s libraries are nationally recognized centers of knowledge, inspiration, and opportunity that welcome all residents and contribute to healthy, safe, and economically vibrant communities.

“The Kennett Library is grateful for the continued support of the Borough of Kennett Square to help make the new Kennett Library a reality,” said Yetter. “However, the library is so much more than a building. It is an institution that has served the community for 125 years. It’s a place of learning, a pathway to literacy and employment, a stepping-stone for educational success, and a community gathering place with a warm welcome for all, regardless of race, religion, income disparity, or sexual orientation. Never has a library been more important than it is right now in our nation’s history.”
