The Bookhouse Hotel has opened in Kennett Square.

A crowd of more than 100 people welcomed The Bookhouse Hotel to Kennett Square during the boutique hotel’s grand opening on Oct. 22, writes Haleigh Abbott for the Chester County Press

The hotel’s owners Stephanie and Matt Olenik have spent the last year turning the former bookstore at 130 S. Union Street into a niche hotel for book lovers — and everybody else who craves a cozy place to spend the night.

Prior to owning their hotel, the couple made a career out of flipping real estate and Airbnb management. For their latest endeavor, they joined forces with business partners, Stephen Tallon and Bill Rookstool, to completely renovate the structure to welcome guests with four rooms.

Matt did all the work,” said Stephanie. “We had to fix the foundation, level the floors, design and furnish each room.”

Each room has a bathroom and kitchenette and can house anywhere from two to four people.

Deciding to create a book-themed hotel was easy, since the former bookstore left behind nearly 5,000 books in the basement. The books are now used to decorate the rooms.
