As part of its announced consolidation plan, Merit Medical Systems will close its manufacturing plant in Malvern by the end of the year and eliminate 134 jobs in the process, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The layoffs will take place between May 1 and Dec. 30. According to the Utah-based company, several select employees may remain in Malvern after the closure of the plant for research and development and quality operations.

The Worker Adjustment and Retaining Notification filed with the state Department of Labor and Industry indicates that the plant’s closure will happen in four phases. The first 16 positions will be eliminated as of May 1, the following 40 on Sept. 1, then 26 on Nov. 1, and finally 52 on Dec. 31.

Merit Medical is a manufacturer and marketer of proprietary disposable devices that are used in interventional, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures. The company announced in February that it would be consolidating four of its manufacturing facilities over the next two years and moving production of 14 of its products to plants in Tijuana, Mexico, or Pearland, Texas.
