The Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center will present the Opus One Dance Project during the first weekend of March.

Every year, Opus One Contemporary Dance brings together an amazing and diverse group of professionals and students from across the tristate area for this event.

This year, the performances – March 6 at 7:30 PM and March 7 and 8 at 12 PM – will create a traditional dance concert experience featuring “Parla mi d’amore,” a piece that celebrates Italian love songs, as well as selections highlighting the work of composers Phillip Glass, Ludovico Einaudi, Johann Paul von Westhoff, and more.

Opus One Contemporary Dance was founded by artistic director Lina McMenamin. A long-time dancer, choreographer, and teacher in the Philadelphia area, McMenamin has performed nationally with prestigious companies such as the Terry Beck Troupe, Philadanco, and Humphrey Dance Ensemble. Additionally, since founding Opus One, her work as a choreographer for the company has been showcased globally.

The mission and impetus for the Opus One Dance Project is to provide aspiring, young dancers with the opportunity to have a dance concert experience by creating individual group pieces, as well as integrating the students into sections from the company pieces. Furthermore, the students who participate in the Project develop a unique sense of confidence that continues to help them in the dance world, as well as other facets of life.

The student-dancers in the Project come from many studios across Greater Philadelphia area that are owned or taught at by Opus One company members.
