Wellness Wednesday: Combating Holiday Calories

By

If weight loss is a personal goal of yours, do not allow the 6 weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day derail you from your goals. The holiday season is filled with parties, traveling, eating, stress, etc.

But it doesn’t have to mean your health goals should get pushed to the first of the year.  Recently a study was conducted by Texas A&M International University, and the results stated the average person eats 619 extra calories per day between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

That puts the average person up 7 pounds come 2019.  If you already have weight loss goals, that be very discouraging.

No need to fear, I have a plan to combat extra calories! Here are my top tips to combat the extra calories and keep the weight down as we enjoy the holiday festivities:

  1. Fail to plan, plan to fail. Most holiday parties occur at night. Make sure you have fully balanced meals for both breakfast and lunch.  Do not skip meals! It is important for you to keep your metabolism working for you.
  2. Do not cancel your gym membership. Working out relieves stress!
  3. Get structured with a nutrition routine. The reality is, there are only a few ‘holidays’ over the next 6 weeks.  That means you can and should have a structured plan for the other days.  I follow a nutritional cleansing program that keeps me focused and allows me to indulge in all the holiday treats without the guilt.
  4. Enjoy! No one ever wants to feel like they are dieting.  Enjoy the most wonderful time of the year but with moderation!
