The Qurate Retail Group is planning to combine the business units of QVC and the recently acquired Home Shopping Network, which will affect a number of local jobs, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The newly formed business unit will be referred to as QXN.
According to Qurate CEO Mike George, the new name “reflects the continued importance of the QVC and HSN brands, the multiplying power of bringing these brands together to maximize performance in the U.S. market.”
As part of the consolidation process, the company plans to eliminate around 350 jobs by the end of this year. The majority will be from HSN’s operations in St. Petersburg and Long Island, but a smaller number from Qurate and QVC in West Chester will also be affected.
The distribution networks of the two companies will be integrated to improve on delivery speeds and reduce costs. This will include closing three centers, including the one in Lancaster, and opening a new distribution center in Bethlehem.
Around 1,725 jobs will be eliminated, but that number is partially offset by 1,200 to 1,500 new jobs that will added at the Bethlehem facility.
