West Chester University recently welcomed publishing executive and financial guru Steve Forbes to campus as part of its Presidential Speaker Series.

The chairman of Forbes Media is one of the world’s most sought-after speakers on economic issues. At WCU, he shared advice and opinions on various topics, including business success, leadership, and President Trump’s economic plans.

“Tariffs are a sales tax,” Forbes recently told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “And I’m not sure putting sales taxes on American consumers and businesses is the right way to redress very real grievances about trade abuses.

“I prefer a laser-like approach. We’ll eventually see an agreement reached with the Chinese, a deal in which there will be zones for American companies in China where they can invest, put up facilities without local partners and forced transfers of technology.”

Forbes also shared his opinion that the upcoming election would be determined by voter turnout, as well as his belief that a flat tax would benefit the country.

Past speakers in WCU’s Presidential Speaker Series include Linda Ronstadt, Bob Woodward, and Maya Angelou, among many others.
