In a little more than two months, 250 volunteers will be needed to support the Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic that takes place on Aug. 11 in West Chester.

Now in its 13th year, the event continues its growth pattern, creating a greater need for volunteers.

For this year’s edition, the race organizer, Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce, has issued a call for additional volunteers.

“The event is a huge production,” said Mark Yoder, chamber president. “Right now, we need volunteers to work in many areas. Believe me, there’s something for everyone.”

Throughout race day, there will be numerous opportunities for volunteers, starting with the Rothman Institute Amateur Race Trials that run from 8 AM-1 PM on the campus of Bayard Rustin High School.

Hundreds of local riders will compete in various race categories to determine the field for the Rothman Institute Amateur Criterium to be held later that day as part of the Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic.

In downtown West Chester, set-up for the Iron Hill Pro Men’s Criterium and the Brumbaugh Wealth Management Pro Women’s Criterium will begin at 1 PM.

These professional races, along with a full slate of family-focused events, will attract thousands of visitors from all over the region.

Volunteers are needed to help race organizers in a range of tasks, including set-up, take-down, and marshaling.

All volunteers will receive a special commemorative t-shirt and meal vouchers.

“It is our priority to support the community we serve, so every year we commit as many people as possible to volunteer on behalf of Benchmark Federal Credit Union,” said David LaSala, CEO of Benchmark Federal Credit Union, title sponsor of the event. “Race fans have grown accustomed to spotting our volunteers in their bright green t-shirts along the race route. It’s a tradition we are proud to uphold every year.”
